This past week our team jet set to New York City for the Season 2 premiere party of Home by Novogratz, the HGTV series featuring Bob and Cortney Novogratz. The Novogratz are the talented design duo behind our future home in Seabrook, WA. We’re so thankful to have gotten the chance to travel to NYC to celebrate their success!

After being stranded on the tarmac in Atlanta for 3.5 hours, we felt deserving of a delicious meal, so at 12 a.m. on a Wednesday, we hit The Dutch in SoHo. To simply say things like, “That was the best eggplant dip I’ve ever tasted” wouldn’t even begin to do justice to the kaleidoscope of flavors we experienced in this one fantastic meal.
We were still food buzzing the next morning when we headed out for a run through Central Park. As if the beauty of the park was not humbling enough, we met the most remarkable man. Jon Mendes was proudly sporting a New York Marathon shirt and a million dollar smile, when we struck up a conversation with him at the Central Park Reservoir. Upon learning, 92 year old, Mendes had earned that shirt in last year’s marathon, we were dying to know how he’d done it. He threw both of his hands in the air, shut his eyes and shouted, “Thanks to the good Lord and Irene!!!”
Then we went with Jon back to his 5th Ave penthouse, where we met sweet Irene, ate brunch and listened to stories of his life heartily lived- graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School, Marine bomber pilot in World War II and the Korean War who flew with John Glenn and Ted Williams, investment banker, inveterate skier and marathon runner.
Just kidding about having brunch at the penthouse part- we wish.

Before heading to the Novogratz’ party, we wandered neighborhoods, grazed… er, devoured… a few powerfully-delicious meals, walked the High Line and toured a few luxury hotels. We want Anthology’s service and amenities to be on par with the best in the world, so it was invaluable to glean and be wowed at each of these infamous establishments. Only the Novogratz could top a day like this!
Our team began the night by running into fellow Okie, Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman, who is every bit as lovely and kind as one might think. She was followed up by two of the youngest Novo boys serenading the party with Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’ before viewing two sneak-peak episodes of Home by Novogratz. The after-party at the Novogratz’ was a medley of perfection: pizza truck, fireworks and rooftop views of the city reflecting in the Hudson. Seriously, how is it possible for us to have 20 favorite things from this day?
Of all the things we experienced on this trip, our favorite moments came down to the people we shared them with. It was inspiring to have a day that personified the values we hold at Anthology: a team working and playing together, a lifestyle that celebrates and honors relationships, a family who enjoys doing life together and, of course, convening around a table with good food and even better people. Cheers to a day and a place to remember!
